Dr Emily Finch & Dr Kosh Agarwal speak to London Health Board

On November 30th, Dr Emily Finch (Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and co-chair of the London Joint Working Group on Substance Use and Hepatitis C) and Dr Kosh Agarwal (Consultant Hepatologist, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) spoke to the London Health Board, including, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, about hepatitis C elimination in the capital.

They spoke about marked improvements Dr Agarwal had seen in liver health at King’s College Hospital due to new treatments now available for hepatitis C, but also the continued impact of stigma on those living with the virus, the need for an integrated response in London, a clear focus on Blood Borne Viruses and greater case-finding in primary care.

We thank the Mayor of London, Dr Tom Coffey (Senior Advisor to the Mayor, Health Policy and a GP in Wandsworth) and Professor Kevin Fenton (London Regional Public Health Director) for their responses, emphasising maintaining focus on elimination and ensuring London keeps leading the world in this regard, including by deepening engagement with primary care.
